ABB has introduced EmissionVision™, a new cloud-based workflow management platform designed to support advanced gas leak detection and accelerate methane leak repair across the natural gas industry.

The platform connects emission detection, field investigations and data analysis in a single digital environment, enabling operators to move from manual inspection processes to fully digitized and traceable workflows.

EmissionVision builds on ABB’s OA-ICOS™ laser absorption technology and is designed to complement mobile leak detection solutions such as MobileGuard and MicroGuard. The system integrates data from detection through to repair, helping operators manage emissions data, assign field tasks and maintain a complete audit trail.

As environmental regulations tighten, the natural gas sector is increasingly shifting away from manual leak detection methods towards automated and data-driven approaches. However, many operators face challenges in managing workflows, consolidating data and coordinating field activities. ABB said EmissionVision addresses these challenges by automating task allocation and providing real-time visibility into leak detection and repair processes.

“With stricter environmental requirements and growing pressure to reduce methane emissions, it is essential to support customers in adopting advanced leak detection without increasing operational complexity,” said Jason Ghiraldini, Global Product Manager for Natural Gas Leak Detection at ABB. “EmissionVision simplifies how emission data is managed and verified, enabling faster repairs and improved compliance.”

The platform is based on ABB Ability Cloud Analytics and enables real-time monitoring of leak investigations. Data collected from mobile detection systems and follow-up measurements is automatically synchronized, providing a unified overview of work orders, field activities and results.

Key features include automated assignment of leak indications to field technicians, full tracking of work orders with auditable records, offline functionality with automatic data synchronization, and integration with ABB and third-party devices. The system is also compliant with IEC 62443 cybersecurity standards.

ABB said the new platform is designed to improve operational efficiency while supporting sustainability goals by enabling faster identification and repair of methane leaks.
