by David Fleschen

ArcelorMittal has announced that Thoralf Winkel will assume the role of Chief Executive Officer of ArcelorMittal Hamburg, effective 1 July 2025. He succeeds Monika Boh, who will depart the company at the end of August to pursue new professional opportunities.

Winkel brings over two decades of industry experience, having joined ArcelorMittal Bremen in 2001 following three years as an after-sales engineer at KSB. During his tenure at ArcelorMittal, he has held several operational and leadership roles, most recently serving as Managing Director of BRE.M.A. Warmwalz GmbH & Co KG. He holds a degree in Marine and Plant Engineering from Hochschule Wismar and an additional diploma in project management from the CBM training institute in Hamburg.

“Thoralf Winkel brings extensive experience in both the steel sector and within ArcelorMittal,” said Sanjay Samaddar, CEO of ArcelorMittal Europe – Long Products. “We are pleased to appoint him as CEO in Hamburg at a time of significant transformation for the site.”

Winkel's appointment comes as ArcelorMittal Hamburg continues to navigate strategic developments in line with the company’s broader decarbonization and modernization initiatives across its European operations.
