Calderys expands Indian operations with new production lines at CAPES

Refractory specialist Calderys has reached two major milestones in the development of its new CAPES facility in Odisha: the successful commissioning of its first production line for acidic monolithic refractories and the announcement of an additional line dedicated to tap-hole clay production. Both developments mark significant progress in the company’s expansion strategy for the Indian market.
Located in the Khordha district of Odisha, the CAPES facility—short for Calderys Plant in East and South India—is designed to become a key manufacturing hub for high-performance refractories and steel casting fluxes. Once fully operational, the site will house six production lines, enabling the company to serve India’s rapidly growing industrial and steel sectors with a wide range of localized solutions.
The first production line, dedicated to acidic monolithics, has been operational since May 2025. Equipped with advanced mixing, batching, and blending systems, it delivers products with strong chemical resistance and thermal stability, suitable for high-temperature and corrosive environments. These products are already being distributed to customers across India.
“The commissioning of our first line and associated new sales are major landmarks in the development of our CAPES facility,” said Michel Cornelissen, President and CEO of Calderys. “This rapid progression of the site’s development reflects Calderys’ commitment to India’s fast-growing industrial high-temperature sectors.”
In parallel, Calderys has announced plans to add a new production line for tap-hole clay. Built on an additional five acres, the new line will address the demanding operational needs of blast furnaces, producing high-plasticity, high-reliability clays that support consistent tapping performance and long-term durability.
“The site has progressed ahead of schedule since breaking ground, driving us closer to our vision of delivering cutting-edge refractory solutions that grow with the demands of today’s industries,” said Ish Mohan Garg, Senior Vice President for the Asia Pacific region. “With advanced manufacturing, strict quality controls, and an experienced team, we’re empowering our customers across India to operate smarter, cleaner, and more competitively.”
The next production line—dedicated to basic monolithics—is expected to be operational by August, continuing the facility’s steady ramp-up.
Strategically located near major steel plants in eastern India, the CAPES site is expected to shorten supply chains, reduce lead times, and improve responsiveness to customer needs. Calderys' growing footprint in the region underlines its intent to deliver technically advanced, locally produced refractories that meet evolving industry standards and sustainability goals.
