Corinth Pipeworks and ArcelorMittal expand partnership on low-carbon steel
by David Fleschen
Corinth Pipeworks and ArcelorMittal have strengthened their long-standing collaboration to advance low-carbon steel solutions for the energy sector. The announcement was made at the Tube trade fair in Düsseldorf, where both companies confirmed the use of XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel in energy pipe production for the first time.
The partnership aims to support the development of lower-emission energy infrastructure by combining Corinth Pipeworks’ manufacturing capabilities with ArcelorMittal’s low-carbon steel production. The resulting pipeline solutions are designed for both conventional and emerging applications, including hydrogen transport.
XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel is manufactured in electric arc furnaces using at least 75% scrap and 100% renewable electricity, reducing CO₂ emissions by around 65% compared with conventional blast furnace routes. The material also supports customers in lowering Scope 3 emissions and advancing circular economy objectives.
Gonzalo Delgado, CMO Industry Region South at ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products, said the company is “proud to contribute to the transition to low-emissions energy systems” by supplying reduced-emissions steel based on EAF technology.
Corinth Pipeworks highlighted that integrating such materials into its production processes supports customers in developing next-generation energy networks aligned with decarbonisation targets. General Manager Ilias Bekiros described the cooperation as a “shared commitment to sustainability and innovation.”
Both companies emphasized that the partnership is part of a broader effort to deliver high-performance steel solutions with a reduced environmental footprint, while maintaining reliability and supply security for the energy sector.
