German engineering company Dieffenbacher has introduced integrated plant solutions for the production of cellulose-based transformer boards, a key insulation material used in power and distribution transformers.
Transformer boards, also known as pressboard, are high-precision insulation materials used in electrical transformers to ensure both electrical and mechanical stability. The boards serve as the base material for components such as cylinders, rings, panels and molded parts used in transformer construction.
According to the company, demand for transformer boards is increasing as global power grids expand and energy infrastructure is modernized. Growth in renewable energy systems, digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence applications and electric mobility is also contributing to higher demand for transformer equipment.
Dieffenbacher supplies complete production lines for transformer boards, including multi-opening hot presses for pressing and drying wet cellulose boards, automated loading and unloading systems, trimming equipment and end-of-line processing solutions such as sawing, packaging and storage. The systems can also include laminating presses for producing laminated boards and rings.
The company’s multi-opening hot presses can feature up to 20 openings and are designed to ensure uniform process conditions for all boards produced during a pressing cycle. Simultaneous pressure build-up and synchronized press closing help maintain consistent product quality and dimensional accuracy.
Additional equipment options include customized heating platens, optimized water and steam drainage systems and protective screen belts between the heating platen and the board surface. These features are intended to improve product quality while supporting efficient production.
Dieffenbacher said the plants can be tailored to specific customer requirements, including pressing force, heating platen dimensions, number of openings and level of automation.
In addition to equipment supply, the company offers engineering support, commissioning, maintenance and modernization services. Its EVORIS Intelligence digital platform allows operators to monitor production data, optimize processes and improve plant availability.
