EU publishes first CBAM certificate price for 2026 at €75.36/t
by David Fleschen
The European Commission has released the first Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) certificate price, setting the Q1 2026 level at €75.36 per tonne of CO₂.
The price is calculated as the weighted average of auction clearing prices in the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), linking the cost of imported emissions to the EU’s internal carbon pricing.
In 2026, CBAM prices will be published quarterly, with each value applying to imports during the respective period. From 2027 onwards, pricing will shift to a weekly basis.
Although companies will only start purchasing CBAM certificates from February 2027 for their 2026 imports, the early publication is intended to provide a reference point for the market.
Further quarterly prices are scheduled for July, October and January.
