Jiyuan expands SBQ production with fourth KOCKS RSB® installation

by David Fleschen

Chinese steelmaker Jiyuan Iron & Steel has awarded KOCKS a contract to supply an RSB® 500++/4 Reducing & Sizing Block for a new large bar rolling mill. The order marks the fourth KOCKS RSB® installation at Jiyuan and represents the 50th RSB® system supplied to China, highlighting the growing adoption of the company's 3-roll technology in the country's special bar quality (SBQ) sector.

Focus on large-size SBQ products

The new RSB® 500++/4 will serve as the finishing block of the new rolling line and is designed to produce bar sizes ranging from 50 mm to 160 mm. According to KOCKS, the technology is intended to deliver high dimensional accuracy, tight tolerances and reliable production performance.

The investment is expected to strengthen Jiyuan's position in the Chinese market for large-size SBQ products while increasing production flexibility for demanding customer applications.

Integrated automation package

Besides the rolling block, KOCKS will supply its Remote Control system for automated stand and guide adjustment as well as the BAMICON Octopus roll shop management solution. The integrated digital package is designed to streamline setup procedures, improve rolling accuracy and increase operational flexibility across the complete product range.

Commissioning planned for 2027

The project has now entered the execution phase. KOCKS will provide engineering support, process expertise and commissioning services, with startup scheduled for mid-2027.
