Kloeckner Metals Germany expands processing capabilities

by David Fleschen

Kloeckner Metals Germany has commissioned one of the most advanced automated end-finishing systems at its site in Velten, Brandenburg, further expanding its value-added service offering for the metal and steel processing industry.

The newly installed MT-100-X system from SEMA Technology Group is designed to enhance productivity and flexibility for customers in the transmission, mechanical engineering, and tube processing sectors. It marks a strategic milestone in Kloeckner’s ambition to position itself as a leading technology partner for precision processing services in Germany.

The fully automated all-in-one system enables a broad range of machining operations for steel, stainless steel, and aluminum parts. It supports diameters from 25 to 300 mm, lengths between 119 and 1,750 mm, and unit weights of up to 750 kg. The facility enables efficient just-in-time delivery while reducing manual handling and production downtime, allowing customers to streamline their supply chains and focus on core production.

Felix Schmitz, CEO of Kloeckner Metals Germany, described the investment as both a technological and regional commitment:

“With this installation, we are continuing our strategy to become Germany’s leading technology partner for advanced steel and metal processing solutions. The investment also reflects our confidence in the industrial future of Germany and our strong ties to the regional economy.”

Key features of the MT-100-X system include:

  • Fully automated infeed and outfeed for optimized throughput and minimal manual intervention

  • Dual tool changer units, reducing retooling times and increasing adaptability

  • Integrated laser marking, allowing for part-specific engravings and traceability according to ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 standards

The new system complements the existing equipment at Velten, which already serves as a high-tech hub for Kloeckner's processing operations. The site offers services such as turning, cutting, and laser processing, with a focus on machining technology. Just last year, a Trumpf TruLaser Tube 5000 was added to the Velten facility – now one of five laser systems operating at the site.

With around 70 employees, Velten is one of three Kloeckner Metals Germany locations in eastern Germany, alongside sites in Landsberg (near Leipzig) and Zwickau. The continued investments underline the company’s approach to building decentralized yet high-capacity processing centers tailored to regional demand.
