The company highlighted Sakatani’s long-standing leadership experience in the metals industry, particularly within the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group, noting that his appointment supports its ambition to strengthen its position as a global technology leader.
Sakatani paid tribute to his predecessor, stating that Ikeda’s leadership had made a lasting contribution to the company. Looking ahead, he emphasized Primetals Technologies’ role in advancing the transformation of the metals industry through automation, hydrogen-based solutions, direct reduction technologies, and the electrification of production processes. He also underlined the importance of services and digitalization in enabling the decarbonization of steel production.
In addition to his role as CEO, Sakatani will assume the position of interim Chief Financial Officer following the retirement of current CFO Andreas Weinhengst.
