Lotte Aluminium grants FAC to AMOVA for new high-bay coil warehouse

Lotte Aluminium USA has issued the final acceptance certificate (FAC) for a new high-bay warehouse supplied by AMOVA, the logistics and storage specialist within SMS group. The facility, located at Lotte’s new plant in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, marks a significant step in the company’s coil logistics and digitalisation strategy.
The automated warehouse can store up to 500 aluminium coils, equivalent to around 6,000 tonnes. Two stacker cranes operate in a single aisle and give direct access to every product. According to AMOVA, the integrated transport and automation systems reduce handling requirements by 30 to 60 percent.
A key component is AMOVA’s warehouse management software, which provides real-time material tracking and is fully connected to SMS group’s MES and QES suites. The system supports consistent quality control and ensures that coils remain traceable throughout the production process.
“AMOVA’s role in this project is crucial. Based on over more than three decades of experience in design and manufacturing of high-bay storage systems, AMOVA is unparalleled in its ability to handle heavy loads of up to 50 tons. Comprehensive intralogistics solutions include transport systems and automation to ensure the seamless integration and optimization of material flow,” said Markus Schneider, Project Director Sales at AMOVA.
The Elizabethtown plant will produce aluminium cathode foils for lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles, making stable and damage-free coil logistics essential. AMOVA and Lotte Aluminium describe the project as the beginning of a strategic partnership focused on combining advanced production with highly automated intralogistics.
