MEPS to present steel market insights at UK Metals Expo 2025

by David Fleschen

With less than one month to go until UK Metals Expo 2025, MEPS International has confirmed its expanded participation at the event, where it will present expert analysis on what it describes as a steel market “at a turning point.” The expo will take place at the NEC Birmingham on September 10 and 11.

Throughout the two-day event, members of the MEPS research team will be available at stand B44 to discuss steel pricing trends, trade developments, and sector-specific forecasts. In addition, MEPS will host two expert panel discussions as part of the Supply Chain, Trade & Policy Theatre programme.

Kaye Ayub, head of price analysis and forecasts at MEPS, will moderate both debates. Ahead of the event, she remarked that “steel markets are at a turning point,” with pricing, trade patterns, and policy shifts “reshaping how people do business.” Ayub noted she is looking forward to exchanging views on recent developments in the carbon and stainless steel sectors.

The Carbon Steel Market: Navigating Trends and Price Dynamics panel will take place at noon on September 10. It will feature four industry experts: Gareth Stace, director general of UK Steel; Godfrey Watt, president of the International Steel Trade Association; Nathan Lawrence, commercial manager at Tata Steel UK; and Tom McDougall, commercial director at All Steels Trading.

The Stainless Steel Market: Exploring Trends and Price Dynamics session is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on September 11. The panel will include Liam Bates, president of long products at Marcegaglia; Nikolas Miklenčič, general manager at Lumturi Stainless Steel; Rodney Rice, director at Langley Alloys; and Tony Lockley, managing director at Inoxko.

Both sessions are expected to address pressing topics such as continued low demand, the outlook for recovery, and the growing influence of trade defence measures, including US import tariffs, safeguard quotas, and the EU and UK carbon border adjustment mechanisms. These factors were also highlighted in recent research for the MEPS European Steel Review.

In parallel, MEPS will use the expo as a platform to engage with attendees through its ongoing Speaking of Steel podcast project, inviting professionals to share their views on current market conditions.

Joe Rugg, head of marketing at MEPS, emphasized the company’s commitment to accessible, independent market intelligence. “We’re looking forward to meeting professionals from across the steel supply chain and demonstrating how our data can support more agile and confident decision-making,” he said. MEPS will also host interactive activities at its stand, including a reaction speed game themed around market responsiveness.
