Metso secures follow-up crushing equipment order from Grupo Mexico

by David Fleschen

Metso has received an order from Grupo Mexico to supply an additional crushing package for the La Caridad copper concentrator in Nacozari, Sonora, Mexico. The new order follows the delivery of high-capacity Nordberg® MP800 cone crushers announced in 2025 and forms the next phase of the plant's expansion.

The contract, valued at more than EUR 20 million, has been booked in Metso's Minerals segment orders for the second quarter of 2026.

Expansion to boost processing capacity

According to Metso, the new crushing package will complement the MP800 cone crushers currently under delivery, increasing the concentrator's secondary crushing capacity and supporting Grupo Mexico's long-term production and efficiency targets.

"This follow-up order builds on the successful collaboration established last year," said Giuseppe Campanelli, president of North and Central America at Metso. "By integrating this new package with the previous, currently in execution, MP800 crushers, we are enabling a substantial step-change in capacity and performance at La Caridad."

Grupo Mexico is Mexico's largest copper producer, and the latest order further expands the long-standing partnership between the two companies.

High-capacity cone crushers

Metso said its Nordberg® MP800 cone crushers are designed for high-capacity mining applications, offering up to 15% higher capacity and increased crushing force compared with earlier models. The equipment also features an optimized crushing chamber, automation readiness and maintenance improvements aimed at enhancing reliability while reducing operating costs.
