Metso secures repeat railcar dumper modernization order in Asia Pacific
by David Fleschen
Metso has been awarded a second contract from a mining customer in the Asia-Pacific region to replace and modernize a railcar dumper system, reinforcing a long-standing partnership in bulk material handling.
The order, valued at more than EUR 10 million, was booked in Metso’s Minerals segment during the first quarter of 2026.
Second railcar dumper upgrade for long-term customer
The project follows an earlier modernization contract for the customer’s first railcar dumper line, which is currently progressing through the delivery phase.
Under the new order, Metso will supply a fully assembled dumper cage and implement major upgrades designed to increase throughput, improve maintainability and reduce material spillage during unloading operations.
“Metso previously upgraded the customer’s first railcar dumper line and has maintained their railcar handling system for many years, so we are very pleased to be selected again to modernize their second dumper line,” said Kai Rönnberg, Vice President, Sales and Service. He added that the repeat order reflects the customer’s confidence in Metso’s technology and long-term service capabilities.
Focus on reliability and operational performance
According to Metso, the modernization will help the customer improve operational safety, reduce environmental impact and achieve higher levels of reliability across its material handling operations.
“Metso’s solution enables customers to access leading market technology, enhance operational safety, reduce environmental impact, and benefit from best-in-class aftermarket services,” said Sushanta Dutta, Vice President, Bulk Material Handling.
More than a century of railcar dumper expertise
Railcar dumpers form a key part of Metso’s bulk material handling portfolio, supporting the efficient unloading of raw materials in mining operations. The company said its dumper technology has been an industry benchmark since the early 1900s.
Metso’s bulk material handling business is supported by more than 8,000 installations worldwide and was further strengthened through the recent acquisition of MRA Automation.
The company also highlighted its extensive service network across the Asia-Pacific region, enabling local support and lifecycle services for customers operating material handling equipment.
Headquartered in Espoo, Finland, Metso employs nearly 18,000 people globally and generated sales of approximately EUR 5.3 billion in 2025.
