Metso wins €40 million equipment order for Viscaria copper mine in Sweden

Metso has secured an order worth approximately €40 million to supply key mineral processing equipment for the Viscaria copper mine in Kiruna, northern Sweden, as the project moves into its execution phase.

Developer Gruvaktiebolaget Viscaria plans annual production of around 120,000 tonnes of copper concentrate, which would make Viscaria Sweden’s second-largest copper producer and add a significant source of domestically produced copper to the European market.

The order has been booked in Metso’s Minerals segment for the third quarter of 2026.

Equipment covers major parts of processing flowsheet

Metso’s delivery will cover both copper and iron ore processing and includes a FIT crushing station equipped with Nordberg jaw and cone crushers. The package also comprises TankCell and Concorde Cell flotation technology, magnetic separators, Larox PF and VPA filters, as well as thickeners, slurry pumps, hydrocyclone clusters and analysers.

The latest agreement follows an earlier order for Metso Select SAG and ball mills announced in January 2026, giving the Finnish technology supplier a substantial role across the mine’s processing flowsheet.

“By consolidating the delivery of all process equipment, which is the project’s largest investment, into a single contract, we can continue detailed engineering, secure the procurement of critical process equipment, and increase predictability in project execution,” said Charlotte Odenberger, COO of Viscaria.

Metso will also provide process engineering services, while the majority of the equipment included in the new contract forms part of its Metso Plus portfolio.
