Pomini Tenova and Siemens have strengthened their long-standing cooperation to support the modernization and revamping of roll grinders used in rolling mills. The partners aim to enhance machine performance, digitalization, and reliability while extending equipment lifecycles and protecting existing investments.

The collaboration builds on more than 40 years of joint projects and nearly 1,000 Pomini Tenova machines equipped with Siemens technologies. By combining Pomini Tenova's expertise in roll grinding, inspection systems, roll shop automation, and digital solutions with Siemens' CNC, drive, and automation technologies based on the Sinumerik One platform, the companies intend to enable increasingly autonomous roll grinder operations.

According to the companies, modernization projects will include digital monitoring and diagnostic tools, predictive maintenance capabilities, and industrial artificial intelligence applications designed to support continuous process optimization. The revamping packages are expected to increase productivity, reduce downtime, improve safety, and maintain high grinding quality throughout the equipment's operating life.

Paolo Gaboardi, executive vice president of Pomini Tenova, said the strengthened collaboration allows the company to offer "comprehensive revamping solutions that go beyond mere equipment upgrades, towards a truly AI-powered autonomous operation."

Sascha Fischer, vice president sales for the machine tool business at Siemens, noted that the partnership combines "deep domain expertise with advanced digital and future-proof automation technologies," adding that digital twin technologies can also be incorporated into modernization projects.
