SMS group has successfully commissioned a fully automatic MP 3150 eccentric closed-die forging press at TZCO Chain Manufacturing’s new forging facility in Shanxi Province, China. Following the successful start-up, TZCO has issued the final acceptance certificate (FAC) for the installation.
The new forging line is now producing track links for excavators and represents a major step in expanding TZCO’s manufacturing capabilities for the construction equipment sector.
High-speed forging with improved efficiency
Supplied as a complete package, the project includes the MP 3150 closed-die forging press, full line engineering and a customized digitalization solution. The press features a nominal force of 3,150 tonnes and is designed to achieve up to 30 strokes per minute.
The fully automated production line targets cycle times of up to four seconds per forged part, enabling high-volume production of excavator track links.
According to TZCO, the advanced forging technology delivers high dimensional accuracy while minimizing flash formation, helping to reduce material consumption, downstream machining requirements and overall production costs.
Advanced automation and digital monitoring
The line incorporates a range of automated handling and process-control technologies, including a servo-driven walking beam transfer system, automatic die lubrication and spray units, quick-change die holders and a duplex bolster changing car.
SMS also integrated elements of its digitalization package into the plant’s process control system, enabling continuous production monitoring and machine performance analysis. Key production and energy consumption data are displayed in real time via dedicated dashboards, providing operators with detailed insights into process efficiency and operating costs.
Supporting growth in the excavator market
The forging process is supported by simulation, analysis and optimization tools designed to improve product quality and process stability. SMS also supplied specialized forging tools and implemented process enhancements tailored to TZCO’s production requirements.
The project marks another milestone in the long-standing cooperation between the two companies and strengthens TZCO’s position in the excavator components market.
According to SMS group, the combination of high automation levels, digital process control and flash-minimizing forging technology provides measurable gains in productivity, product quality and operational efficiency.
