Tenova technologies featured on EU INCITE platform for clean innovation
by David Fleschen
Tenova has been recognized on the European INCITE platform, with five of its technologies highlighted as part of efforts to accelerate decarbonization and circularity in industry.
The INCITE (Innovation Centre for Industrial Transformation Emissions) platform, launched in 2024, evaluates advanced technologies supporting emissions reduction, resource efficiency and sustainable industrial processes across the EU.
Among the solutions featured are several of Tenova’s core technologies for steel production, including Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) systems with Consteel® and Consteerrer®, the ENERGIRON direct reduction process developed with Danieli, as well as iRecovery® and Heat Leap for energy recovery. The Open Slag Bath Furnace (OSBF) and polymer injection technologies (Tenova KT) are also included.
Three of the listed technologies are already in full industrial operation. Consteel®, with more than 80 installations worldwide, enables continuous charging and efficient melting in EAFs while reducing emissions. iRecovery® and Heat Leap improve energy efficiency by capturing and reusing heat from off-gases and cooling systems, including applications in power generation and district heating. ENERGIRON supports low-emission DRI production using natural gas and hydrogen.
Additional solutions, such as the OSBF furnace and polymer injection systems, are still under development or early commercialization. These technologies aim to reduce reliance on coal and lower emissions in ironmaking and steel production processes.
