Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG has appointed Georgios Giovanakis to its Executive Board as Chief Sales Officer (CSO), effective June 1, 2026.
In his new role, Giovanakis will lead the company’s newly established standalone Sales division. The innovation and quality division will also be integrated into his area of responsibility, as Thyssenkrupp Steel aims to strengthen customer-focused management and consolidate market-facing functions under one executive leadership structure.
Ilse Henne, Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG, said the creation of a dedicated Sales division is intended to reinforce the company’s market orientation and competitiveness during its ongoing transformation.
“Georgios Giovanakis stands for a clear strategic direction for the sales operations built around value creation, customer focus, and competitiveness,” Henne stated.
Giovanakis brings more than 25 years of management experience in the steel and materials industry. Between 2019 and 2025, he served as CEO of Thyssenkrupp Electrical Steel GmbH. Earlier in his career, he held several executive positions within the Thyssenkrupp Group in Germany and internationally, including leadership roles at Berco, Acciai Speciali Terni, Shanghai Krupp Stainless and Terninox.
Since January 1, 2026, he has already been part of Thyssenkrupp Steel’s extended Executive Board, overseeing sales activities within the CEO’s area of responsibility.
According to the company, the appointment reflects its strategic focus on strengthening customer relationships and improving resilience in an increasingly volatile steel market environment.
