Worldsteel: Global crude steel production declines by 5.8% in June 2025
by David Fleschen

ccording to data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global crude steel production for the 70 reporting countries reached 151.4 million tonnes (Mt) in June 2025. This represents a 5.8% decrease compared to June 2024.
The figures, which cover countries responsible for approximately 98% of global steel output, highlight regional differences in production trends. While some areas showed modest growth, the overall decline reflects ongoing challenges facing the steel industry, including weaker demand, trade disruptions, and policy shifts in major markets.
Regional Highlights – June 2025 vs. June 2024
-
Africa: 1.7 Mt (+3.0%)
-
Asia and Oceania: 112.9 Mt (−6.2%)
-
European Union (27): 10.4 Mt (−8.2%)
-

Top 10 Steel-Producing Countries – June 2025
Among individual countries, China remained the largest producer with 83.2 Mt, although its output fell by 9.2% year-on-year. India, in contrast, increased production by 13.3%, reaching 13.6 Mt, solidifying its position as the second-largest producer. Other notable results include:
-
United States: 6.9 Mt (+4.6%)
-
Japan: 6.7 Mt (−4.4%)
-
Russia (estimated): 5.6 Mt (−7.4%)
